Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úcommunity at large:

  • Evening Gun: Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úhas resumed the firing of the evening gun Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings at 5 p.m. The cannon may be heard throughout the City of Lexington and parts of Rockbridge County near post.
  • Noise Notice: There will be loud ceremonial cannon fire in the Lexington area on several afternoons the week of Nov. 3-7 as Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úprepares for and celebrates Founders Day.  
  • Get to know VMI: Admissions Open Houses are the best way for high school juniors and seniors to see and experience first-hand what it's like being a cadet at the Institute. This 2-day program is designed to be informational for both students and their parent(s)/guardian(s). Learn more and secure a spot today for the remaining fall opportunity: .
  • Scholarship Opportunities: Are you applying to Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úas a recipient of a three or four-year ROTC national scholarship? Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿ÚAlumni Agencies invites you to be a part of Nov. 13! The class with the most donors will have their class year on Moe’s jersey during home football and basketball games in the 2026–27 season!

In addition, an exciting new challenge is being introduced this year.Because academic rigor is at the very heart of VMI, you can now show your support to the department of your choice through the Major Participation Challenge. The department with the most votes will win $25,000 in additional funding! To vote, simply make a gift to any fund on the Day of Giving and choose your major from the Major Academic Challenge dropdown menu!

Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿ÚCommunity Theatre Presents “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency”

The three-act play was written by Douglas Adams, author of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” Gently is a detective who finds himself on the trail of a gruesome murder, involved with the works of Coleridge, quantum physics, and the enigmatic study of the Cambridge Professor of Chronology.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú, the oldest state-supported military college in the country, will celebrate its 186th anniversary Friday, Nov. 7. Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úalumnus, Eugene “Gene” Williams ’74, will receive the Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿ÚFoundation Distinguished Service Award for his dedication in service to the Institute.
