Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úcommunity at-large:

  • Cadet-Athletes Earn Accolades: Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úhad 11 Keydets from three different teams – lacrosse, water polo, and wrestling – land on the College Sports Communications Academic All-District list for At-Large programs. The list recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Nomination requirements include a sophomore or above academic standing and a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA. Learn more from .
  • Summer Hours: The Institute continues to operate on a modified business hours schedule for the summer, open Mon. - Thurs. 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. through Aug. 13. The PX in Lejeune Hall will be open during Summer Session II, June 23 - July 25 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • CPTF Access: Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú is opening the Corps Physical Training Facility (CPTF) upper track to the community during the summer. From 9 to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, the public may enter the facility through the upper door at the walking bridge over Route 11. The South Institute Hill parking area, where the steps to the walking bridge are located, is accessible at the traffic light at the Diamond Street intersection. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The facility will be closed when Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úoffices are closed, including June 19, 20, and July 4. Additional updates on holiday closures or events will be posted on the entrance door throughout the summer. Community hours will be reassessed in August, as cadets return to post. 
  • Matriculation 2025: Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úhas updated information for matriculants headed to Lexington this August to start their leadership journeys. Appointed students and their families are encouraged to review the information available at vmi.edu/matriculation as well as communications sent via email to ensure a smooth first day on post. The 2025-2026 Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿ÚNew Cadet Handbook is also now available.

The Next Step: Christian Walker ’25

Christian Walker ’25 initially had no plans to attend law school but discovered a passion for law during his second year at Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úthrough coursework and mentorship from Maj. Tim Passmore. Inspired by the opportunity to serve others, he now hopes to become a JAG officer and eventually a federal prosecutor, using the law to help people in difficult situations.

“I absolutely believe Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úgives me a competitive edge on my resume. The Institute has a reputation for helping create strong academic habits that will help cadets even after their time at Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úis over."

A group of 49 Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú cadets, along with Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿ÚArmy ROTC staff members, marched in the Army’s 250th Birthday Parade in Washington, D.C., June 14, to commemorate the founding of the U.S. Army in 1775. The Army is the oldest of the six branches of the U.S. armed forces.
