The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) released its annual All-Academic Team and six 麻豆传媒入口cadet-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom and the field of competition.

In order to qualify for the team, the student-athlete must hold at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and be a sophomore or above in academic standing. While many cadet-athletes meet the mark, only six per school are allowed to be chosen.
听

The 麻豆传媒入口track and field teams performed well both on and off the field of competition as both the men’s and women’s teams were recognized by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as All-Academic programs announced Monday.

In order to achieve the status, the program must earn a team average GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The 麻豆传媒入口men’s team accomplished the feat with a 3.12 average GPA and the women’s team hit the mark with a 3.02 average GPA.

Following an excellent academic year on post, a total of 194 麻豆传媒入口cadet-athletes were named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2025-26 season.

In order to be named to the list, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.0 minimum GPA for the year while being a member of the final squad list during their sport’s traditional season. Recipients must have been eligible to compete throughout the entire academic year.

The Academic Honor Roll also听includes听student-athletes who compete in听non-sponsored听sports at Southern Conference institutions (i.e. swimming, lacrosse, water polo, etc.). Freshmen are also eligible for the award.
听
In addition, seven Keydets maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA for the year and 32 achieved above a 3.8 GPA to be recognized on the Commissioner’s Academic Medal within the Honor Roll.
听
The 麻豆传媒入口track and field team led the way for the Institute with a combined 34 recipients between the men’s and women’s teams. Lacrosse was close behind with 32 honorees while men’s and women’s swimming and diving combined for 27 nominees. The wrestling team had the fourth most recipients with 18 receiving the honor while women’s soccer totaled 17.
听
Throughout the Southern Conference, a grand total of 2,698 student-athletes accomplished the feat, the second-highest number in conference history.

The NABC has announced the recipients of the 2025-26 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards and NABC Honors Court, representing achievement in the classroom by men’s college basketball teams and individual players.

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs that completed the 2025-26 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Men’s Basketball hit the mark by registering a 3.0 team GPA at the end of the recently completed 2026 spring semester.

The NABC’s academic awards are presented annually to teams and athletes from all levels of college basketball.

听In Round 13 of the 2026 MLB Draft held in Philadelphia during All-Star Weekend, the Chicago White Sox selected 麻豆传媒入口Baseball first baseman听Grayson Fitzwater.

Fitzwater became the 37th Keydet to be drafted and the first position player drafted since 2018. This marks the third player drafted in the听Sam Roberts听era (Will Riley 鈥� 2024; Holden Wilkerson 鈥� 2024). There have now been just two Keydets drafted by the South Side team (Adam Lopez 鈥� 2012).

“The whole thing has been surreal,” says Fitzwater. “It has been truly a blessing from the beginning, just having the opportunity.”

After dubbing the Keydets uniform for four seasons, Fitzwater ends his tenure ranked first with 62 home runs, 483 total bases, 223 RBIs, 214 games played, 145 walks, 1492 putouts, and a .989 fielding percentage in program history. He is second with a .636 career slugging clip, 57 doubles, 194 runs, and 1599 total chances, and ranks third with 760 at-bats. He also stands in the top 10 with a .432 on-base percentage, 232 hits, and 34 hit by pitches.

The Suffolk native capped off his glorious career with a stellar 2026 campaign, being named Preseason SoCon Player of the Year (SoCon & D1Baseball.com) and Preseason All-SoCon first-team, while being ranked as the 12th-best first baseman by D1Baseball. He landed on the postseason All-SoCon first-team after setting a new single-season record of 21 home runs, ranking top 25 nationally, while slashing .325/.753/.470 for a stunning 1.223 OPS with 63 hits. His offensive abilities made him an end-of-season top-10 first baseman by D1Baseball.

Fitzwater drew a record-setting 50 walks and drove in a team-best 64 RBIs for the third most in a single season at VMI. He posted the second-highest single-season slugging clip with a .753 and totaled 146 bases, which is the second most in a season. The newly minted 麻豆传媒入口alumnus led the team with 20 multi-hit and 19 multi-RBI outings.

Fitzwater’s biggest outing came in a non-conference series in March, where he set a new single-game home run record with three against Western Illinois, making him the D1Baseball Mid-Major LOUD! Performer of the Day. After his performance against the Leathernecks, he was named to the Baseball America National College Team of the Week and garnered back-to-back SoCon Player of the Week honors.

In the field, the first baseman secured a .994 fielding percentage, standing in fourth in a single season, with 469 chances and 442 putouts, which are both top 10.

Off the field, Fitzwater graduated from 麻豆传媒入口with a degree in economics & business and was a member of the Ducks Unlimited Club and a leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

After an exceptional season both on the lacrosse field and in his studies, 麻豆传媒入口lacrosse junior attackman听听was voted as a Second Team Academic All-American as selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), the organization announced Wednesday.
听
The CSC Academic All-America program is the most prestigious academic honor a student-athlete can achieve. To achieve the feat, the individual must own a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be a sophomore or above in class standing while competing in at least 90 percent of the team’s competitions from that season to make the Academic All-District Team.听With sufficient accolades on both the athletic and academic sides of the spectrum, Bagwell was elected for the next round of voting to be considered for Academic All-America status.听
听

Bagwell just completed his junior year at the Institute and owns a perfect 4.0 GPA as an international studies major.
听
Men’s lacrosse is considered an At-Large sport for the organization and its nominees also compete against the sports of golf, wrestling, hockey, volleyball, water polo, fencing and skiing, making it that much more difficult to be named as an Academic All-American.
听
In mid-June, teammates听,听,听,听听and听听were named alongside Bagwell as CSC Academic All-District recipients. Despite other team members reaching both the academic and athletic standards for the achievement, only six were allowed to be nominated from VMI.
听
A two-time CSC Academic All-District recipient (2025, 2026), Bagwell earned First Team All-Conference honors this past season after leading the Northeast Conference and was ranked seventh overall in the NCAA in goals per game (3.0). On February 23, he was named as the NEC Player of the Week after scoring a combined 14 goals in games the week prior against the Naval Academy and Hampton.
听
Named an NEC Prime Performer four times throughout the 2026 season, Bagwell earned other accolades such as joining VMI’s exclusive 70-Goal Club as only the 18th Keydet in program history to reach the mark. He also joined VMI’s 100 Point Club, only the 23rd Keydet in program history to hit the milestone.
听
An outstanding cadet-athlete, he is a two-time NEC All-Academic Team honoree and achieved MAAC Honor Roll status in 2024 as a freshman.

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced that both 麻豆传媒入口Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving made the Spring 2026 Scholar All-America Teams.

The CSCAA recognized 714 teams from 418 institutions for their outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester. Collectively, these teams represent 16,680 student-athletes from across all collegiate divisions. Teams were selected based on their Spring 2026 grade point averages and were required to achieve a team GPA of 3.00 or higher to earn Scholar All-America recognition. The Keydets earned a 3.15 GPA on the women’s side and a 3.08 GPA on the men’s side.

The 2025-26 season was a special one as the regular season featured a 4-3 record for the men, earning a winning record in back-to-back seasons, while the women earned a Division I victory in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2014-16. In total, the men broke 10 team records and had 35 top-10 all-time performances. The women shattered 20 team records and had 33 all-time top-10 marks. The Keydets also had a pair earn America East weekly awards.

In the conference championship meet, VMI’s men finished fourth with four medals. The 麻豆传媒入口women secured 159 points, the highest total in any conference meet, along with posting the most scoring swims at any conference meet. 11 Keydets qualified for the CSCAA National Invitational Championship, where they placed 22nd in the invite, the highest placement in program history, and scored 148.5 points, the most points in this meet in program history.

After shooting a program-record 587 in smallbore at Saturday’s NCAA Qualifier in Morgantown, 麻豆传媒入口Rifle’s became the first shooter in program history to earn an invite to the NCAA Championships, as he was named an alternate for the event.

Pohlman is one of just two shooters nationally to earn the alternate distinction in the smallbore event. There are a total of four individuals overall who were selected as alternates 鈥� two in smallbore, two in Air Rifle.

Pohlman, Lt. Col. Bill Bither and the program found out Monday night, during the NCAA Selection Show. Bither is in his 12th year at the helm of the program.

“This is a first for 麻豆传媒入口Rifle since I’ve been coaching,” said Bither. “To reach this level of competitive shooting as a college sophomore is an incredible accomplishment. Alexander not only broke the team smallbore record but also placed third against top ranked West Virginia and qualified for the NCAA National Championship as an alternate.”

The NCAA Championships will be held March 13-14 in Columbus, Ohio. The is available online.

In October, 麻豆传媒入口Football player Kouri Crump was named the recipient of the prestigious听. Monday Dec. 8, Crump, his family and select teammates attended the Bronko Nagurski Banquet presented by the Charlotte Touchdown Club where he was officially presented with the award.

鈥淏ack in October when I first received the award, man, obviously I was very grateful, but it was during the season I was kind of just locked in and focused on winning and I kind of really didn’t have a real understanding of how big and prestigious this award was,鈥� Crump said. 鈥淎s time got closer and closer towards the award ceremony, I learned more and more about it each day.鈥�

The season came and went, but the veteran safety finished strong, second to only his teammate Stephen Dean III in tackles, with 83.0 on the year. Leading up to the event, Crump made sure his biggest fans would be in attendance. Bringing not only his family, but his brother rats Dean III and Tyrel Dobson.

鈥淚 really wanted my family there,鈥� Crump said. 鈥淎nd on top of that, I wanted the guys who’ve been through here with the four years, who went through the rat line with me. So that’s why I brought down Stephen and Tyrel.鈥�

Everyone got into town on Sunday, as Kouri – a Charlotte native – was able to take Dean and Dobson by his house before a dinner where the trio was able to meet NFL legends such as Mike McCoy. 

鈥淜ouri鈥檚 defender of the nation award was a great opportunity to meet some of the greats within this sport,鈥� Dean said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e happy we were able to support him while he earned this prestigious award, this is just the beginning for him.鈥�

鈥淚t was amazing experience to be able to support your best friend in winning a prestigious award,鈥� said Dobson. 鈥淚t is not very often 麻豆传媒入口football players are acknowledged for their success on the field. It was nice to see all his hard work and dedication pay off. It was awesome to be in uniform showing off to the world what a 麻豆传媒入口cadet is. A lot of people we talked to never heard of VMI, so it was great to bring awareness. It was also great to show the unity that 麻豆传媒入口builds with your teammates.鈥�

Monday morning commenced with breakfast shared alongside none other than longtime Carolina Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera. Later, Crump and his teammates would meet different award honorees such as Leonard Moore (Notre Dame) and Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech).   

鈥淚 was always a Panthers fan growing up, so seeing Ron Rivera was like, oh my goodness. I was kind of starstruck a little bit, but we had good conversation,鈥� said Crump. 鈥淲e talked about the state of college football today and the NFL as well, along with Tyrel, Stephen and my father. Then I met Jacob Rodriguez and Leonard Moore during breakfast, and they were just really good people, really good men of God. It was just a blessing to meet them. They were all like-minded in the same way that they attacked football and they attacked life.鈥�

After breakfast, there was a high school forum in which Crump, Rivera, Moore and Rodriguez were the featured speakers, giving Crump a chance to chat with prospective college athletes on his experiences. 

鈥淚t was just cool to talk to those guys and allow them to pick our brains about life,鈥� said Crump. 鈥淭hey’re going through a process and it’s a huge change, so it was a blessing to be able to talk to them and shout out 麻豆传媒入口on the national stage. For me, coming home and talking to those high school kids, it was like a full-circle moment.”

After lunch and other activities came the awards banquet Monday evening, where Crump would officially be presented his Defender of the Nation trophy, giving him an opportunity to thank those who helped him along the way. 

鈥淚 learned probably about a week or so before that I had to give a speech. I watched the guy from last year give a speech who did very well, so I looked at that and looked more in depth about the award,鈥� said Crump. 鈥淭he award said it was for academic excellence, athletic achievement in a military environment, which is similar to the three-legged stool. Each leg is very vital, so I made it a point to thank those closest to me, and give credit to 麻豆传媒入口for giving me the platform to be in a position like that.鈥� 

From there it was showtime. Ballroom packed. Two 麻豆传媒入口tables filled with Crump鈥檚 family, teammates and defensive backs coach Pat Brown. 

鈥淚 want to thank Coach Brown for coming down there and showing support,鈥� Crump said. 鈥淚 really appreciate him and the Institute for everything.鈥�

Crump鈥檚 name was called and it was his time to speak, delivering the message he had crafted in the days leading up to the event. Recognizing those who helped him along the way, and those in attendance. As the fall semester winds down, Crump has finally had a little time to reflect on the experience. The theme is the same as his speech: gratitude and blessings. 

鈥淟ooking back on it, I can just say that everybody involved in the experience was amazing and they were a blessing,” said Crump. “My little brother, and all my family enjoyed this experience. They were looking around like oh, wow, this is amazing. I want to thank the Charlotte Touchdown Club for everything that they’ve done for me and just selecting me for the award. It’s just been a blessing.鈥�

For his career, Crump totaled 187.0 stops, 11.5 TFLs, nine passes defended, four forced fumbles and two blocked kicks. He certainly left his mark.
