RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES 

• Assist the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in all aspects of intercollegiate athletic team coverage for 18 sports. 
• Primary sport coverage:  Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Úis in a transition period of increasing sports medicine staff. There are two full-time positions available.  Assistant football/water polo/swim. Responsible for all aspects of medical coverage to include prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and referral of athletic injuries.  Sport assignments subject to change.

• Communication with sports medicine staff, Post Physician, Post Nurse Practitioner, and Team Physicians, and department administration. 
• Administrative duties to include:  Inventory, product check in, concussion inventory for NCAA, tracking CPR/first aid certification card documentation. 
• Athletic training clinic with Team physicians 
• Maintain full commitment to compliance with NCAA, Southern Conference, and Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú rules and regulations. 
• Contribute to departmental administrative efforts and sports medicine coverage in other areas as needed in athletics and the Corps of Cadets. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required.  Degree completed in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health & Human Services, or similar field of study. 
• 1-2 years of experience working in the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training field. 
• BOC certification.

Additional Considerations:

• Master’s degree preferred in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or Health & Human Services.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

• Working with first year cadet-athletes to monitor academic performance, teach organization, planning, and other learning & study skills and strategies.
• Be familiar with academic support and enhancement resources available, policy and procedure of the VMI, including the Honor Code, Southern Conference, and NCAA
• Communicate effectively with cadets by establishing a positive rapport and by keeping a professional, patient, and engaged demeanor.
• Oversight of NCAA guided study session hours
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher

Additional Considerations:

• Previous experience in student services (tutoring, mentoring, etc.)
• Previous experience working in intercollegiate athletics or intercollegiate athletics academic support
• Ability to work non traditional work hours, as required

• Collaborate with coaching staff, athletic department, and Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Úadministration to support student-athlete academic progress and personal development.
• Perform administrative duties and other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
• Ensure compliance with VMI, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree as well as coaching experience.
• Must posses a valid drivers license
• Demonstrated success in training, mentoring, and developing student-athletes
• Proven track record in recruiting and retaining quality student-athletes
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative approach to working with staff and administrators
