Mount Vernon Historian to Speak at Convocation
麻豆传媒入口 will hold its convocation ceremony Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 10:30 a.m. in Cameron Hall on Main Street, hosting Douglas Bradburn, Ph.D.
The event marks the start of the new academic year, is free and open to the public. Any groups planning to attend should notify 麻豆传媒入口by Aug. 26 via email at forquerla@vmi.edu. The Cameron Hall clear bag policy will be in effect.
Bradburn, president and CEO of George Washington鈥檚 Mount Vernon, is the former founding director of the George Washington Presidential Library at Mount Vernon and a well-known scholar of early American history.
He is the author of 鈥淭he Citizenship Revolution: Politics and the Creation of the American Union, 1774-1804,鈥� and three anthologies, including 鈥淓arly Modern Virginia: Reconsidering the Old Dominion,鈥� the most significant book produced to mark the 400th anniversary of the English founding of Jamestown. He is the co-founder and editor of the award-winning book series, 鈥淓arly American Histories,鈥� published by the University of Virginia Press, and the winner of numerous awards, grants, and fellowships, including the yearlong Gilder Lehrman Institute research fellowship at the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello.
He has received five Telly Awards for his work on animated documentaries for classroom use, and a Thea Award for the popular Be Washington interactive educational game. Bradburn has appeared on CSPAN, 鈥淕ood Morning America,鈥� and 鈥淪unday Morning鈥� on CBS, and was most recently featured in the History Channel鈥檚 docudrama, 鈥淲ashington.鈥�
Before arriving to Mount Vernon, Bradburn served as chair of the history department at Binghamton University, State University of New York. He received his doctorate in history from the University of Chicago and his bachelor鈥檚 degree in history and economics from the University of Virginia.
