The Office of Institutional Research, Planning, & Assessment (IRPA) at the Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú provides data, information, research, and analysis; creates operational business reports; fulfills compliance reporting mandates; and assists in the evaluation and coordination of institutional effectiveness in support of operational management and decision-making as part of the tactical and strategic planning processes at VMI. It does so in an accurate, timely, ethical, transparent, and efficient manner.
Objectives:
- To collect, maintain, analyze, and disseminate reliable institutional data in order to meet reporting obligations to government (e.g., IPEDS & SCHEV), accrediting (e.g., SACSCOC), and other external agencies.
- To maintain a comprehensive, Institute-level survey research program that yields useful, actionable information for each of the Institute’s major programs and units within those programs.
- To assist Institute faculty, administrators, and staff in their assessment and evaluation endeavors.

INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH
Institutional research data serves as the official source of evidence, research-based information about Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú’s cadets, faculty, and staff. The Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿ÚFact Book is designed to provide current and historical information about various aspects of the Institute including admission and enrollment trends, retention rates, graduation rates, and commissioning rates, to name a few.

ACCREDITATION
Founded in 1839, Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú is the oldest state-supported military college in the United States. Information about accreditation status for both the Institute and specific programs is available.

ASSESSMENT
Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úunderstands the value of assessment to the curricular and co-curricular programs, activities, and services at the Institute. Course evaluations are vital to identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the teaching and learning experiences offered at VMI.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úis a unique undergraduate educational environment where cadets earn their degrees while participating in military trainings and obligations.

Qualtrics is a powerful online survey tool available to Âé¶¹´«Ã½Èë¿Úfaculty, staff, and students for VMI-related projects.
